Two representatives from the Project Management Unit of the REBYC III and EAF4SG projects attended the Global Environment Facility (GEF) International Waters (IW) Conference 10, which took place from in Uruguay from 23-26 September 2024.
The GEF International Waters Conference is a biennial landmark event bringing together the International Waters portfolio and GEF implementing and executing agencies.
Attending the Conference on behalf of the PMU, were Ms. Nerissa Lucky, Technical and Project Coordinator and Mr. Tharā Gabriel, Administration and Operations Support Officer.
During the conference, participants were exposed to networking and lessons learned in the implementation and execution of GEF funded projects. The PMU representatives took the opportunity to exchange information as well as disseminate information about the two regional projects. This resulted in the sharing of experiences with several other projects internationally including one from Africa.
Part of their engagement included the introduction of a “Fishing for Words” game developed by the PMU as a learning tool to educate players about fisheries and related concepts. It served as an icebreaker for the introduction of the REBYC III and EAF4SG projects and will be replicated electronically for distribution.
The REBYC III and EAF4SG projects are funded by the GEF Trust Fund, implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and executed by the University of the West Indies (UWI), Faculty of Food and Agriculture (FFA). Both projects will be implemented over a 48-month period in Barbados, Guyana, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago.
